WOW's vision and mission, by its CEO:

The opportunity for the city presented by a consolidating Port Industry was too good to miss.

The industry had occcupied this important zone for centuries and, with the storage of Port moving out to the Douro valley, the ability to re-purpose these warehouses for other uses was an extraordinary opportunity. In a city whose mercantile traditions had not produced the sort of noble buildings that are easily adapted to museums, the old Port lodges are ideal for such a transformation.

The vision of WOW is therefore not only an important urban regeneration program but also a catalyst for change in the wider context of the use of the historic city center Port wine area. It has created a cultural complex which is at once world class and sufficiently rich to appeal to all ages and all peoples.
